Exstetra for Nintendo 3DS

About Exstetra for Nintendo 3DS

Exstetra is a Japanese role playing game set in Tokyo after it merges with a fantasy world called Amazia. A student named Ryoma returns from that other world with special powers and learns that a kiss can awaken the abilities of his companions, who must stand with him as knights to save the city. The setup is playful, dramatic and very much its own thing.

Battles are action based, with characters chaining attacks and using awakened skills as the party grows. Exploring a Tokyo changed by fantasy, with dungeons appearing in familiar places, gives the adventure a fun contrast. The game stayed in Japan, which makes it a curiosity for import fans. Beneath the unusual premise sits a sincere story about friendship, duty and a city worth saving. The presentation makes smart use of the two screens, keeping maps, menus and useful details in view without slowing the action down.

If you plan to pick this one up now, keep the current situation in mind. The Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS closed in March 2023, so new digital purchases are no longer possible. A physical cartridge is the honest way in now, whether it comes from a retailer with old stock or a trusted used game seller with a fair record. People who bought the game digitally before the closure can still access their purchased games, so earlier owners keep what they paid for.

Some games age into treasures, and this one is quietly becoming one.
