Metroid Samus Returns rebuilds the Game Boy classic Return of Samus as a full modern adventure on Nintendo 3DS. The Galactic Federation sends Samus Aran to planet SR388, the Metroid home world, with orders to exterminate the species before it can be used as a weapon. Deep below the surface she hunts evolving Metroids through caverns of acid, ruins and Chozo technology, in a mission that sets up the events of later games.

Exploration gains sharp new tools. The melee counter lets Samus knock attacking creatures back and answer with a powerful shot, free aiming gives combat a precise modern feel, and Aeion abilities like the scan pulse reveal secrets and map details. Metroids evolve into tougher forms as the hunt deepens, from alpha and gamma stages to the huge zeta and omega battles. New areas, a strong soundtrack and fast movement make this remake far more than a visual update.
