Castlevania Dracula X for Nintendo 3DS

About Castlevania Dracula X for Nintendo 3DS

Castlevania Dracula X is the Super Nintendo chapter of the famous vampire hunting series, offered on Nintendo 3DS through the Virtual Console line. Richter Belmont takes up the family whip, the Vampire Killer, after Dracula servants kidnap his beloved Annette and her sister Maria. The journey crosses burning villages, clock towers and castle halls in classic side scrolling style. This version is known for its high difficulty and moody art. It is a stern test from a sterner era of action games.

Richter moves with weight and commitment, so every jump and whip strike must be planned. Sub weapons like axes, holy water and the cross return, powered by hearts collected from candles. Maria can be rescued and becomes a playable character with her own lighter style, which changes the whole game. Branching paths lead to different endings, rewarding players who explore and survive. The Virtual Console release adds save convenience that softens the old challenge just enough for modern players to enjoy the hunt.

Classic hunters today should know this was a digital Virtual Console release. The Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS closed in March 2023, so new digital purchases are no longer possible. There is no Nintendo 3DS cartridge of it, so the honest options are an earlier purchase or the original Super Nintendo cartridge from a retro retailer. Players who bought the game digitally before the closure can still access their purchased games on their system. Retro shops stock the classic original regularly.

It is a hard, proud classic for whip masters.
