Tales of the Abyss for Nintendo 3DS

About Tales of the Abyss for Nintendo 3DS

Tales of the Abyss follows Luke fon Fabre, a spoiled young noble who has lived behind mansion walls since childhood. A strange accident throws him into the wide world with the swordswoman Tear, and he slowly learns that a great prophecy has plans for him. The journey crosses kingdoms on the edge of war and asks hard questions about identity and free will. It is one of the most praised stories in the Tales series, carried by a cast that grows and changes in real ways.

Battles play out in real time on open fields where you move freely, chain attacks and fire off artes in flashy combos. Your party of six builds strong bonds, and funny skit scenes show their lighter side between fights. The 3DS version brings the full adventure to a handheld with quick saving that suits portable play. Leveling, cooking and side quests fill the long road with things to do. Few handheld role playing games of the era offer this much story, heart and action in one package.

Playing the 3DS version today means hunting for a cartridge. The Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS closed in March 2023, so new digital purchases are no longer possible. The honest way to play now is a physical cartridge from a retailer, and this one stays in steady demand among role playing fans. If you bought it digitally before the closure, you can still access your purchased games on your system.

A landmark Tales story that still hits hard years later.
