Sonic Boom Shattered Crystal introduces the Sonic Boom take on the famous heroes in a handheld adventure. When the villain Lyric kidnaps Amy and reveals plans built around an ancient lost crystal, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Sticks set out across islands to rescue her and stop him. The tone follows the cartoon series, with jokes between the team and a lighter feel than the main line games. It is a story about teamwork, since no single hero can cross these islands alone.

Unlike the fastest Sonic games, Shattered Crystal leans into exploring. Levels are larger, with branches, hidden rooms and collectibles like crystal shards and materials for upgrades. Each hero has a key skill, such as Sticks throwing her boomerang to hit switches or Knuckles digging and climbing, and you swap characters to pass obstacles. The enerbeam lets the team swing across gaps and pull objects. Taking your time and checking corners is rewarded, making this a Sonic game for explorers as much as runners.
