Monster Hunter 3G for Nintendo 3DS

About Monster Hunter 3G for Nintendo 3DS

Monster Hunter 3G is the Japanese release that first brought the Monster Hunter series to this handheld, expanding the world of the earlier Tri with new content. Hunters gather at Moga Village, a fishing port troubled by the mighty Lagiacrus, and set out across islands, deserts and flooded forests in search of ever larger prey. New monsters headline the adventure, including the explosive Brachydios, and the cast of returning favorites is large. For Japanese players this was a landmark release, and it later formed the basis of the western Ultimate edition.

The heart of the game is preparation and patience. Each weapon class plays completely differently, from the slow and crushing great sword to the quick dual blades, and choosing the right one shapes every hunt. You gather herbs, mine ore and carve materials from fallen monsters to forge equipment that keeps you alive against stronger foes. Underwater battles return from Tri, adding a second arena where movement and air matter.

Things are different now for buyers. The Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS closed in March 2023, and new digital purchases are no longer possible. The honest route today is a physical cartridge from a retailer or a good second hand shop. As the name suggests, this cartridge is a Japanese release, so its text is Japanese, and imported copies are the route for collectors outside Japan today. Owners who bought the game digitally before the closure can still access their purchased games.

Where the handheld hunting legend began, and still a mighty adventure.
