Mad Dog Maccree for Nintendo 3DS

About Mad Dog Maccree for Nintendo 3DS

Mad Dog Maccree brings the famous arcade light gun game to the Nintendo 3DS. A gang led by the outlaw Mad Dog has taken over a small frontier town, locking up the mayor and spreading fear. You arrive as a nameless stranger, and the townsfolk beg you to save them. The game uses live action video scenes filmed with real actors, which made the original a sensation in arcades. Every scene is a quick draw test where hesitation means trouble for the stranger.

You aim and shoot with the touch screen or motion controls, picking off outlaws as they pop up in saloons, streets and hideouts. Timing matters, since shooting too early or hitting townsfolk costs you lives. Showdowns with Mad Dog and his gang test your speed at the end of the trail. The cheesy acting and earnest western drama are a big part of the fun today, like playing inside an old matinee film. Short scenes and score chasing make it easy to jump in for a few duels at a time.

Times have changed for this release. The Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS closed in March 2023, which means new digital purchases are no longer possible. The honest way to play it now is a physical cartridge from a retailer, a game shop or a trusted second hand seller. If you bought it digitally in the past, you can still access your purchased games, since earlier purchases remain available.

Its charm has survived long after its release year passed.
