Azure Striker Gunvolt: The Anime for Nintendo 3DS

About Azure Striker Gunvolt: The Anime for Nintendo 3DS

Azure Striker Gunvolt The Anime is an animated adventure set in the world of the games, released for viewing on the handheld. Gunvolt, a young adept with power over lightning, takes a mission to guard a girl whose song can sway other adepts, and the job quickly becomes personal. It tells a compact and emotional side story that fans of the games will enjoy in a new form.

As a viewing experience it shines through bright character art, energetic action scenes and music in the spirit of the series. Familiar faces appear, and the story explains bonds that the games only touch on. It is best seen as a companion piece, a short animated chapter that adds heart and background to the Gunvolt world rather than a game in its own right, and on those terms it works very nicely. Difficulty stays fair throughout, offering a real challenge in the late stages without sudden spikes that would frustrate new players.

Finding Azure Striker Gunvolt: The Anime in the present day means going physical. The Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS closed in March 2023, so new digital purchases are no longer possible at all. A real cartridge from a retailer or a good used game shop is the honest way to play now. Happily, people who bought the game digitally before the closure can still access their purchased games on their own system.

A lovely reminder of what this little system did best.
