Wipeout 2 brings the famous TV obstacle course home, giant red balls and all. You create a goofy contestant and throw them at courses built to humiliate: spinning platforms, sweeper arms, mud pits and slides that end in very public splashes. The hosts provide running jokes while you run, jump and mostly fall in spectacular fashion. It is a game about laughing at failure, since even a perfect run usually includes at least one bounce off something round and unforgiving.
Courses grow meaner as the episodes progress, with new obstacles and tighter timing between moving parts. You can play solo through the show season or pass the system around for local bragging rights, since watching a friend meet the big balls never gets old. Unlockable outfits and sillier gear keep your contestant looking the part. The controls stay simple, which keeps the focus on timing and comedy rather than learning complex moves before the next wipeout arrives.
