The Grumpy Reaper for Nintendo Wii U

About The Grumpy Reaper for Nintendo Wii U

The Grumpy Reaper stars a death figure who is having a very bad time of it. Instead of a grand dark epic, the game treats its spooky hero with humor, sending him through small stages full of obstacles and odd problems to solve. The cartoon presentation keeps everything light, more Halloween fun than horror. It is one of those small Wii U curiosities that takes a silly idea and builds a whole game around it, and its charm comes from how seriously the reaper takes his own grumpiness.

Stages ask for timing, planning and a little patience as you guide the reaper past hazards and toward his goal. Levels are short, which makes the game easy to enjoy in small sittings, and later stages layer in trickier arrangements that demand a second look. There is no heavy story or complex system to learn. The pleasure is in clearing one neat little problem after another. Players who enjoy modest puzzle platform challenges with a spooky smile will find a pleasant diversion here, especially around Halloween season.

A quick note on buying today. Since the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Wii U closed in March 2023, new digital purchases are no longer possible. The sensible and honest way to play The Grumpy Reaper now is a physical disc bought from a retailer or a reputable seller. Players who bought the game digitally before the closure can still access their purchased games on their own console. Checking the disc condition before you pay is always wise.

It is exactly the kind of game the Wii U did best.
