SteamWorld Dig 2 continues the steampunk mining story with Dorothy, a tough little robot searching for Rusty, the hero of the first game, who has vanished deep underground. Earthquakes shake the desert town of El Machino, and the trail leads down into mines full of new creatures, strange cults and shining secrets. The world is bigger and more colourful than before, with several distinct underground regions to explore. Dorothy is a winning lead, brave and funny, and her journey mixes light hearted moments with a real sense of danger the deeper she digs.
Digging feels better than ever. Dorothy gains a jetpack, a hookshot style grappling arm, pressure bombs and other tools that turn the underground into a playground. The caves are hand crafted with care, hiding challenge rooms and upgrade cogs for players who explore every corner. Back in town, mods let you tune abilities to your own style, whether you favour speed, safety or pure digging power. Combat is livelier, secrets are plentiful, and the whole adventure moves at a brisk pace that makes one more descent almost impossible to resist.
