Sonic Boom Fire and Ice is the second Nintendo 3DS outing for the Sonic Boom version of the famous cast. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Sticks explore the islands of Gogoba and beyond to stop the villain D Fekt, whose mining for a powerful element is tearing the world apart with fissures of fire and ice. The story keeps the humor of the Sonic Boom cartoon, with the team trading jokes while they race to seal the damage before the islands split open for good.

Speed is the star, but this adventure mixes in exploring and puzzle solving at a calmer pace. Sonic and friends can switch between fire and ice modes at any moment, melting ice blocks, freezing water into paths and opening new routes. Each character brings a useful skill, from Tails gadgets to Sticks guided boomerang, and swapping heroes is part of solving each area. Optional race stages and collectibles add replay value. It is a friendlier and more thoughtful Sonic adventure than pure speed alone.
