About Shin Megami Tensei IV Final for Nintendo 3DS
Shin Megami Tensei IV Final is the Japanese name of the game known in the west as Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse. Its story runs alongside the events of Shin Megami Tensei IV, but follows a new hero, a young demon hunter working the streets of a Tokyo sealed under a dome. After an early mission goes badly wrong, he returns with the help of the god Dagda and finds himself pulled into a war between gods, demons and the people caught between them.
The battle system refines what came before, keeping the focus on striking weaknesses to earn extra actions for your team. Partner characters play a larger part this time, supporting you in battle and building bonds that make them stronger. Demon recruiting and fusion return in full, with a huge roster to collect and combine. Quality touches like clearer skill costs and partner assists make long sessions smoother. Tokyo itself stays dangerous and rewarding to explore, with new areas and fierce optional bosses.

Shoppers should keep one fact in mind: the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS closed in March 2023, so buying this digitally as a new purchase is off the table. A physical cartridge is the sensible way in, sold through game shops and import sellers, with the Japanese Final edition and the western Apocalypse edition both in circulation. Anyone who bought a digital copy before the closure can still access their purchased games. Checking the edition name on the box avoids mix ups.
It stands proudly beside the original as a series high point.
