Ice Cream Surfer for Nintendo Wii U

About Ice Cream Surfer for Nintendo Wii U

Ice Cream Surfer might be the silliest shooter on the Wii U, and that is a compliment. You ride a flying ice cream through the skies, fighting an invasion led by an evil broccoli villain and his vegetable army. The hero surfs between worlds made of sweets, shooting carrots, cabbages and other grumpy greens out of the sky. Under the jokes sits a proper old school side scrolling shooter with fast action and busy screens.

Each stage scrolls relentlessly forward while waves of vegetable ships attack in neat patterns. You dodge, weave and fire back, grabbing power ups that strengthen your shots when the screen gets crowded. Boss fights close out each world, usually against some giant vegetable monstrosity that takes real pattern learning to beat. The game supports cooperative play, so a friend can grab a second ice cream and join the madness. Short, sweet and tougher than it looks, it is a treat for shooter fans.

Plan on plastic if this one tempts you now. The Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Wii U closed in March 2023, which closed the door on new digital purchases for the Wii U. A physical disc from a retailer is the honest way in today, and used copies are easy to find. If you bought it digitally before the closure, you can still access your purchased games.

Save the universe, one scoop and one broccoli at a time.
